How To Have More Charisma

confidence flow impact newsletter professional communication Nov 04, 2024
White woman in her 40's looks smiles confidently to someone we can't see, while holding her phone in both hands in front of her.

Charisma. We all know someone who has it, and we all want it!

Here’s some good news. You can have it.

Charisma is often misunderstood as being an extroverted quality, and looking at the common definitions it’s easy to see why. 👇

Think of charisma like pollen to a pollinator. All the amazing birds, bees, bats, butterflies, moths, and beetles, who are attracted to all the plants in order to help them spread their seed, do so regardless of how bright, bold, or big the flower is.

Charisma is the ability to attract the right person towards yourself irrespective of how extroverted you are or are not. You embody  something the other person resonates with, and so they are drawn towards you. This quality is essential if you have a message for change to share.

Some people use charisma in service purely to their own ego. But when you feel called to speak up for something greater than yourself, you are invited to leave your ego lightly hanging at the door. Your innate charisma lies in caring deeply about what you say, and letting that be seen and felt in the moment in a grounded way.

It’s an inner power move that resonates on the outside as integrity and passion.

This type of charisma doesn't rely on being loud or showing off. It relies on EMBODIMENT and RESONANCE.

So I invite you to put your message for change through this simple Charisma Test.

🌟⬇️🌟⬇️🌟⬇️🌟

You can do this two different ways (I recommend option 1)

👥 Find a friend who can give you honest feedback.

🎥 Film yourself and watch it back. (waaay more awkward!)

THE CHARISMA TEST

1️⃣ Uncover the ALIVENESS

  • First, Talk out loud about your most meaningful work, speaking into the What, Why and How of this work.
  • Afterwards, ask for feedback or watch the recording back and answer ONLY this question: When did you come most alive, and in what way?

2️⃣ Let EXCITEMENT lead you

  • Next speak out loud again about what truly excites you about your most meaningful work?
  • Afterwards, ask for feedback or watch the recording back and answer ONLY this question: When did you feel the excitement come across, and in what way?

3️⃣ Dial UP your new-found charisma

  • Finally, gather up the insights and embodied wisdom you gained from the previous two stages, and talk about your work again.
  • This time DIAL UP those moments where your aliveness and excitement were tangible. Let them lead the way you talk about your most meaningful work.

The secret to charisma is not to dazzle and manipulate people with your sparkly eyes and silver tongue. Real charisma that has integrity comes from within. You share your aliveness and excitement with others, and they can’t help but be drawn into what you are saying.

This type of charisma leads people to want to help you, get involved with what you are doing, and get behind you all the way!

Imagine what this could do for your most meaningful work. How would you express your most meaningful work? How would you deliver that talk differently? How would you introduce yourself to new people?

If this simple exercise whet your appetite then check out my upcoming event. Next month, I’m teaming up with the Inspiration Space to help you nail your intro in a LIVE HALF-DAY WORKSHOP that’s packed with practical tools and insights. Pop over here to see the full deets and get your ticket.

Charisma can be yours, without having to shout from the rooftops or wear a really expensive designer outfit (unless that’s your thing)! Communicate in a way that feels aligned with who you are and the impact you’re making. No fluff, no fillers—just YOU. 💫
